62nd Annual Bishop’s Address: Bishop Edward C. Malesic – Feb 10, 2022

The First Friday Club of Cleveland Welcomes to our Annual Luncheon the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland

Thursday, February 10, 2022

The First Friday Club of Cleveland has a long standing tradition of hosting an annual address given by the Bishop of the Cleveland Diocese.  This year the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic will address the First Friday Club on Thursday, February 10th at Windows on the River.  Our goal is to bring together the Cleveland Catholic community to show our support for Bishop Malesic, our Diocese, and our Church. We hope you will join us!

62nd Annual Bishop’s Address with the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic

On September, 14, 2020 Bishop Edward C. Malesic, JCL, was installed as the 12th bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland.

Prior to his arrival in Cleveland, He was appointed in 2015 by Pope Francis to be the fifth bishop of Greensburg on April 24, 2015. Bishop Malesic was ordained and installed as bishop of Greensburg on July 13 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

In the months following his installation as the Bishop of Cleveland, Bishop Malesic worked to guide the diocese through the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring access to parishes and the sacraments while putting guidelines into place to maintain the health and safety of parish and school communities.  As the pandemic waned, Bishop Malesic has increased his parish visitation schedule to become well acquainted with the clergy and faithful of parishes across the eighth counties of the diocese.

In addition, Bishop Malesic is building upon the efforts of his predecessor in stressing the development strategic plan to strengthen Catholic elementary education in the diocese.  The Keeping the Faith Initiative pulls together groups of experts from several fields to explore and recommend models to ensure that Catholic education is available and affordable across the diocese for many years to come.

He recently established the new position of Vicar for Evangelization.  The Vicar for Evangelization will help coordinate the talents of the Office of Communications and the Secretariat for Parish Life and Development to further the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News in the most effective ways possible.

Bishop Malesic was born on August 14, 1960 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Bishop Malesic is a 1978 graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, Harrisburg, and attended Lebanon Valley College in Annville as a biology major for three years prior to entering the seminary.

In 1981 he was accepted into the seminary program at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 1983.  He continued his theological studies at the Josephinum and was awarded a master of divinity degree in 1987.

He is a member of two USCCB committees: the Committee on Canonical Affairs and Church Governance and the Subcommittee for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe.

“The Catholic Call to Health”

Lindsay received a Master’s degree in Theology from Saint Mary’s Seminary in Wickliffe, Ohio. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology (BSc.) from Kent State University’s School of Education, Health and Human Sciences and a minor in Sports Administration. She is an expert in wellness coaching and habit change and also holds Strength and Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, and Pn2 Coaching certifications.

While working as a fitness athlete and strength coach for nearly ten years, she struggled with her own body image, dieting, and living in extremes with food and exercise. It was only after developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and understanding her Catholic roots that she began her healing journey towards interior freedom and balanced living. During her time coaching high school sports and teaching, Lindsay felt called to create Fit From Faith to educate Catholics on healthy and balanced living. Through her own journey, she realized how to be fit in mind, body, and spirit through the practice of virtue and habit change. Now she is eager to give back and help others do the same. “Ultimately we experience inner freedom and peace when we’re healthy and well. We can also serve others more joyfully,” she says.

Lindsay serves as the Health and Wellness Adviser at Borromeo and Saint Mary Seminaries in Wickliffe, Ohio. She is currently working on her Theology of the Body certification through the Theology of the Body Institute.
